World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is marked each year on March 21, beginning in 2006. The 21st day of March (the 3rd month of the year) was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
On this day, we would like to share a heart-warming story about Tze Yue (left) and Aldric (right), our Kindergarten 1 kids from Kindle Garden Preschool. Tze Yue and Aldric have been buddies since they were just 2 years old! They love playing, learning and growing together, alongside their other classmates.
As Aldric’s buddy, Tze Yue always looks out for him, and ensures that he is able to participate meaningfully. A naturally sociable child, Aldric lights up when he sees Tze Yue, greeting her with a huge grin as he steps into school. The teachers also noticed that having Tze Yue around helps bring down Aldric’s walls, and he is more open to trying out new activities. Through her friendship with Aldric, Tze Yue has also grown in compassion and empathy, but most admirably, she has developed into an individidual with plenty of problem solving and leadership skills.
